False. But certainly what it takes to be a successful "artist"... I think in part it's backlash against the slow exclusion of the arts from education.
Art is what makes you look twice at a car or feel particularly "it" in an outfit. It's so very many of the things that take existence beyond survival. And it's far more who are capable than are led to believe so.
Of course, the gallery scene is all about the act and the politics and the BS. That's what the buyers make it. The performance is part of what they pay for. Just like going to the theater in a sense.
