I have an oil cooler and I race with valvoline full syn high mileage oil. 5w-30. I’ll change out to a 10w-40 if it’s going to be super hot that weekend and I’ll be drafting a lot. HM oils tend to have more zinc and I don’t think expensive boutique oils are necessary. A good syn gets you there, just make sure to keep oil pressure up.

For endurance racing I’ll likely go thicker. The TAPG team that did the 25 hours of Thunderhill I believe used a 50wt oil for the sake of reliability.
