Anything's possible, and there's always the possibility it's the driver's age impacting it more than the vehicle. I have been driving over 50 years (if you count not on public highways) but there still isn't much that passes me, or beats me away from a light.

As mentioned above, I don't see this with any of my other vehicles, but they average much worse MPG (almost half) so the 86 may be more susceptible to minor changes in driving style.
