I suspect your rubbing issue may be related to your large tire size. 235/40/18 has a diameter of about 25.4 inches, whereas stock 215/45/17 is about 24.6 inches, so almost an inch difference. The fact that the issue gets worse when you increase tire pressure (ballooning it more) seems to further supports it’s the culprit.

For reference, I’m running 16x8, +25 with 225/50/16 (24.9 inches) and lowered about an inch, never rubbed.
