I was buying them on-line wherever was cheapest. One set from Simpletire, another set from ebay (performance plus tires IIRC), but lately tire crawler is the only place that seems to have them reliably. That's where GTRadial referred me to. Benefit is the tire crawler tires are recent production - the ebay ones were from 2013.

They don't have a different compound on the shoulder - it's the same across the tire AFIAK. They are not the best tires in the wet, but if memory serves they are as good as the stock primacy tires.
