Reverse Gear not going into gear? MT

First off, I am a noooob at driving MT so bare with me.

I noticed a few times that when i initially start up the car from a cold-start(after giving it a few mins to warm up[for me i wait til the rpm drops]) sometimes i have the clutch pedal depressed all the way and i have the reverse lift tab lifted all the way and when i try to shift it into reverse...it doesn't let me and I feel as if I were to apply just a little more force that I may damage something.
The most recent time I can remember this happening(does not happen all the time) is when I was parked on my driveway that has a slight to significant slope. I am not sure if this may be a factor. In this case, even when I'm letting the car coast backwards I cannot shift the gear into reverse without really shoving it in there.

Can anyone shine some light!
Thanks!
