But again, that's because they built them that way. Toyota knows their buyers tend to want AT and Subaru knew would sell better as MT.
The "uptake" phrase continues to imply everyone that had bought an AT had a choice. They did not. There's a good percentage of the AT buyers that wanted an MT but "settled" or didn't care enough to wait. The "uptake" would have been higher if the inventory was there, in theory. It's also very possible a large portion of the BRZ sales are attributable to the simple fact there was MT available across town while Toyota only had AT on the lot (given the build division).
In the end, its a bit of a circular argument.
