My 17 still smells like a hot slot car after it warms up. As has been said, the cricket is normal but you are the first (I think) to notice a 17 doing that. I get a hint every now and then, but nothing compared to my 13.

Yes, the stock steering wheel material sucks. I don't know who thought a slick material was a good idea.

I'll sniff around mine in a bit and let you know.

Added: I read somewhere that the refrigerant used these days can cause a smell.
