Consensus is that the higher ethanol content causes the pump to chirp. It's one of the things that kept me away from an E85 conversion.
Also, I saw or felt no performance difference whatsoever between any of these fuels. Car's stock and is a daily, YMMV (literally & figuratively) if you track a modded car.

There is no consensus on this subject. There are just as many people that have crickets on higher octane fuel as ones that don't have them on lower. Same applies for ethanol content.
It is pretty much an individual experience and what works for you may not for the next guy.
