Of course, by design. This is a "-1" winter setup here in New England, designed to optimize winter traction by decreasing the contact patch and increasing the lbs/in(squared).

I do a lot of winter driving in snow. They work great! I use 215/45-17 Michelin PS4's during the rest of the year and have much better traction than OEM.
