The S2000 name came from the engine displacement. 2.0 liters = 2000cc, just like all the previous Sxxx models. S550 (550cc) S600 (600cc) etc etc.
(However, ignore the fact that AP2s had an increased displacement of 2.2 liters in some markets, lol.
)
I'm not opposed to the S2000 successor having a different name, but if it does it should follow the naming convention that Honda has always had for 2 door RWD roadsters.
