And since I am usually that guy and not ashamed of it I will say that although there certainly would be a mathematical increase in stress the difference would be so minuet it would be insignificant and cause zero extra wear or damage. Transmissions are not precision instruments where such minor deviations have any affect.
Now, if it was three feet long and you were using all that leverage beyond the shift operation...
