This confirms there will be no other small light weight non-luxury RWD cars coming out of Japan for a very long time.

I really think the BRZ/FR-s is a swan song for the average income Japanese RWD sports car.

No Auto manufactuer can justify the capital to develop a new chassis in RWD for this price segment when the fuel economy takes an automatic 10-15% hit over FWD.

Maybe Mazda can somehow make a coupe out of the Miata chassis, and bring out an new RX-7 (hopefully with a little turbo 4 cylinder). Thats really the only hope. Nissan is out of the game. Honda doesn't car about anything but green vehicle developent. I think the Toyota-German thing will be high priced.

Korea may surprise us, they make their own steel. If the FR-S cuts big into the genesis sales then thats the only real hope. They may be smart enough to see that a FWD car turned 180 degreed (MR) can have good fuel economy. But the lack of sales with a 2 seater is always a problem, even if it isn't a convertable.

The FRS/BRZ is going to be the only choice for us, lets hope they manuafacture enough of them that prices come down a little (at least to MSRP!) and parts availability won't be an issue in 10 years.
