So, yeah, higher-end helmets with lots of bells and whistles cost a lot, and not everyone will want to or be able to buy one. If you can swing the initial cost, though, and you want or need the features, you'll be amortizing it over the ten years or so that you'll be enjoying it.
Oh, sure - there are definitely reasons why you might want a higher end helmet rather than a cheap one. Safety just isn't one of them (as long as the cheap one still meets all the applicable standards).
