I'm at around 345hp at the wheels on E85 with a Harrop, and around 305hp at the wheels on 98 (but Oz fuel ron is rubbish).
Spent a lot of time and effort to keep the weight down, I only run 7" rubber, and the nannies are off permanently (except ABS)....so even at 305hp, it's a huge amount of fun. 345hp is a bit more fun... but its not exponential. But it did cost a lot of extra money to raise the standard of the other components in the car up to the performance/safety tasks required.
Personally I cant really see too much point in much more power than that for the road in these cars, I tend to agree with others who feel that if you want mega power, then these cars aren't the best way to get it... or to use it.
And as ever (annoyingly for my fragile ego) its the ability of the driver that actually determines how "quick" a car can be...
