At least the law in CA defines what noise level constitutes an illegal muffler. 95db tested according to a SAE standard.

Texas? http://semasan.com/resources/exhaust...ws-state#Texas

I know it's up to the law enforcement officer to determine, but it's so vague that anyone can determine what is legal or not, just by how good their lawyer is in court.

Some of the other states have pretty absurd sound limitations by comparison... 88db in Oregon, Ohio is 70db for any moving vehicle under 35MPH, Montana is just like California, 95db.

All this has nothing to do with noise regulations, just enforcement of those regulations.
Its because our AR-15 are louder than a car so we don't enforce it.
