Not a fan of convertibles either, but I don’t mind a targa top, which can still provide a fairly rigid coupe like experience.

The RF is cool but yeah, the complex folding roof mechanism adds extra weight and takes up storage space that a dedicated coupe could avoid. One of the eternal mysteries is why Mazda don’t pick the low hanging fruit and capitalise on their existing MX-5 by offering a fixed coupe version. The development cost would be minimal... they could literally use the existing RF shape, but just make it a permanent hardtop (I’d suggest an aluminium roof with a carbon fibre optional one) and save some weight. It would only expand the customer base. Not sure why they don’t...
