I personally never really liked the N54 engine in that car. Way to many problems with the fuel system. Something to consider if your keeping the car. Though I believe they updated the warranty regarding that. I'm not sure though since I left the BMW dealer by the time the recall started picking up.
The interior of the FR-S is simpler than the BMW and you'll have less luxurious things in there. Manual seats, simple instrument cluster, plastic trims, etc. You'll also have less power. But if you don't mind those things then I don't see you having any problems in regards to owning an FR-S. I traded in my Evo for mine and I don't regret it. It's a fun little car to drive and still gets some good gas mileage.
It would also probably help to try to drive a stick as well.
