Hence its good practice to do what the factory does and set the iam initial to 0.7 if your unsure of fuel quality that end user will have.
That way at each startup the ecu uses reduced timing and after some running with minimal knock detections will increment iam to 1 if fuel good.
Not all fuels are created equal even fuel rated at 93 from different sources can perform quite differently especially on boosted cars.
USA 91 can is some cases be better than say Canada 93.
The subaru knock control strategy works well if set up correctly or not actively knobbled by tune.
Pretty well no tune will be 100% knock detection free all the time, there is an acceptable! level of knock detection over which the setting in the ecu will quite aggressivly reduce timing and richen fueling if set up correctly.
Ecutek have also added addition of boost reduction ( turbo) on IAT , knock, coolant temp.
