But can you say Vettel gained an advantage by running wide in your example? I wouldn't say running wide is much of an advantage in most turns. Usually the exceptions are specified during meetings before qualifying. Cutting a corner on the other hand both decreases radius and distance traveled which absolutely gains one an advantage.
Also, Vettel was already in front at that point in your example.
I saw the pass from the onboard and saw a penalty coming immediately. Stewards made the right call.
