My wife is going to get hit someday just by driving like either the Toyota or the red car that was holding up the whole lane for no apparent reason. There was no obvious reason for the Toyota to lay on the brakes there (still your fault if you hit them) since there was loads of room between them and the car ahead even if the red car was slow. Like them she sees brake lights go on a mile ahead of her and she slams on the brakes. I have found it more hazardous to say anything to her than the crash risk though so just hold my breath waiting for the impact.
