by-pass oil filter?
Has anyone experimented with bypass oil filters? Synthetics hardly break down, and we only change oil due to contaminants, so the theory is that the bypass filter element will filter out much smaller particles, thus allowing a longer service life for the oil.
This makes sense, if you run a good full-flow filter, one the pores get clogged up, it'll only filter out the larger particles while the smaller particles are sent through the bypass valve. This is where the by-pass filter come in, filtering a smaller % of the oil, but filtering down to 2 microns (normal filters filter down only to ~20 micron when new). The only concern is the effect on oil pressure.
Any thought?
