You're confusing drop with spring rate. Aftermarket springs kill OEM struts because they lower too far and the strut has no travel left, so it bottoms out. But even then it depends on usage. I've been on RCE yellows and OEM struts for 50K miles with no issues. Others have needed new struts within 5K. People have run Eibach sportlines or RS-R superdowns for years with no problems.
