..that is what I figured too but considering have removed the backseats and are using a wheelbase shorter than the 86's think the low curb weight is a real possibility.

Well the Z4 also had a shorter wheelbase than the 86 but weighed 3400 lbs as hardtop convertible and 3250 lbs prior when it was a soft top in the prior late 2000 generation. The Z3 was actually under 3000 lbs but that was a long time ago. Hopefully they can meet the Z3 curb weight or at least a Cayman's weight of 3000 lbs.
