So, let me see if I am understanding what you are saying. Your wheel's lug nut holes are small and probably require tuner style lug nuts. Meaning the diameter of the OEM lug nut was too large to fit all the way down the hole in the wheel. So, when the lug nut felt tight, it was actually just binding with the walls of the hole not the seat.

If I understand you correctly... WOW! Thhat would be a huge problem! Glad you are OK!
