PS3 online was horrible. Remember when it was down for a month?
It was horrible because it was free, and it never really got updated like the 360 did. But now you gotta pay, maybe it'll help.
Remember, PS3 sold mostly for its games and the fact it has blu ray, now more then ever social and community interfaces are extremely important which was never a Sony strong side. But of course, its hard to judge consoles when they haven't even been out for 3+ years...
But as always, the sales will be pretty similar, both yielding similar results and pretty much same hardware as always...
