sound advice for dealing with the cops, i'd also like to add, make sure to be polite, stick to quick and short answers, yes sir, no sir. Do not say more to the cops than you have to, and don't make up some BS excuse unless you have a really funny one like, sir i'm about to shit my pants. This did happen to me once, and i did technically run from the officer, but i didn't realize he was behind me, i was speeding to the next rest stop because
i was turtling hard core and he ended up chasing me into the bathroom stall and then it got weird fast.
A trick I learned from a buddy is to keep your paperwork somewhere where you can grab it before being pulled over without looking like you are trying to hide something (i.e not in the glove box). as you pull over roll the window down, turn your inside lights on if its night time, turn the car off and stick both hands out the window holding all your paperwork and wait patiently for the officer to cautiously walk up to your car. Everytime I've done this i get the "you've been pulled over before I see" but the officer seems more responsive to giving me a lecture over a ticket (has worked 3 times so far but i make it a point to not be pulled over)
Now i'm not sure i'd try the above with state patrol, I've only had one dealing with them and i was in my wifes car so stuff was not in easy access. But the guy i dealt with was a just an ass, never said anything except for "license and registration" then walked to his car, came back, threw the ticket and my paperwork back into my car and told me to slow the fuck down. (he tagged a suv who passed me doing 84 in a 70 while i was doing 77, gave me the 84 ticket)
