I think it all depends on what you want to do...

If you want to drift at non-deadly speeds, then stay with stock tyres.
If you're like me, then go for wider sticky rubber and love the incredible increase in grip which makes your eyes bulge when you push it to the limit.

I was unsure, so I put my foot in the water with a set of wider wheels and cheapie Federal 595 RS-R 235/40-17 semislicks, and I love them!!
They're 140 rated, so they probably won't last too long especially with my driving style, but what the heck - you only live once!!

Next time I could go Advan AD08s too - if they're available in darkest Africa - LOL.

For me, the increase in pleasure (and safety) which comes with stickier tyres is definately worth the shorter life and additional cost.
