AT driver here - The torque dip is there, no question about that, but the AT does a job of making it feel less so - in default mode it shifts up right in the middle of the dip, which feels like a natural point to shift, and in doing so it keeps fuel consumption decent while still giving the car a decent bit of go as you climb through the gears.
In Sport shift mode, you can feel the power coming back on after 4500rpm, and then the car has some real go until you bump up against the 7k shift point.
My pet peeve right now? In AT Sport mode, once you hit the speed limit on most roads it tends to hang onto one gear too low (usually 3rd) at 4-5k rpm, and I have to blip up to put it into a sensible gear. This could be solved by increasing the speed limits, but I don't think my state government is going to be willing to listen to that petition.
