Is there a way to switch the bleeders without using a torch?

I have some 04 STI take offs that i want to try out. I thought King Tut said he didn't use a torch but i don't remember him saying what method he did use.

Also if anyone has done the torch method do you have any after pictures? I would like to get an idea of how much browning one should expect.
