I'm running a Unichip plug and play piggyback on mine. So far, so good

Apple Maps naman... I dont want to end up "inside" Muntinlupa.
Are you using AppRadio 2? I am looking at AppRadio 3 that was announced this week. I prefer the model without the DVD/CD component.
But the Kenwood that Nik uses is a big sell kaso this video shows the Kenwood you need to control the interface via the iPhone rather than direct to the stereo. My preference sana was to plug the phone and tuck it away and control every function and app through the headunit.

I am wondering with the iPad being so thin, light and responsive why cant headunits be as trim as well. I read the Kenwood weighs a good 2.6kg and costs more than an iPad. Not against anyone on ft86club but I just find it really really odd.

My head unit is a Pioneer AVH-X5550BT which has AppRadio 2. Yup you can use Waze with any head unit that has RCA AUX INPUTS. I use it on my other car that way. You will need a composite video out cable for your iOS device. I don't think it will work though if you have an iphone 5.
Try using Waze, it gives real time traffic info like average speeds on a particular stretch of road, accident, hazard and police warnings, and yes it does turn by turn navigation. Not bad for a free app, I prefer it over iGO Primo I have in my other car. It even works outside Metro Manila. I've already used Waze's turn by turn navigation in Bacolod. Works great!
