Why wouldn't you want to car to remember the highest gear and automatically upshift for you? Simple: how would it know at what rpm to upshift each gear from 1st to 2nd to whatever gear you were in when you stopped? If I wanted to car to automatically upshift, I would have it in auto mode. The whole point of manual mode is so I can (if I wanted) throttle it to redline before upshifting to a higher gear and increase access to torque and horsepower.

I can think of a couple of situations where it would be handy to have the FR-S do that, just like it was in the tC. So is the answer "no, the FR-S won't do that and I'm glad it won't because that's stupid" or "I don't know"? It's obviously a shifter software solution, and it would be cool to have the option.
