Learnt to drive manual in the 86/fr-s and never looked back. It's incredibly cliche and corny, but driving manual makes me feel one with the car - as if my senses have melded with the metal/glass/plastic/rubber.

When I drive auto's for an extended duration (2hrs+), my awareness level drops dramatically and fatigue starts kicking me in the balls. Whereas having learnt to drive manual it's never been the case - one time I drove nearly non stop (1 pee break) for 6 hours or more to Great Ocean Rd and back and when I got out of the car, I felt as fresh as when we headed off.

Start-stop traffic on a hill is still PITA and left knee twinges sometimes from all the work required from it but as we all know - "no pain, no gain".
