Is your engine cold when this happens? If this is the case, than I think it's the engine performing the warm up cycle which increases the rpm. Just let it idle for 30 seconds to a min and you'll see the rpms drop, than put your car in drive and it should be better. But I do know what your referring too, my buddies STi is more noticeable than our cars.
