If you read the whole post not just what you quoted it will answer your question. And the gap I'm referring to is the space in between cars when you merge into (assuming you're merging into another lane, if not then this post is irrelevant). You will not save gas skipping gears if your still flooring it, you're actually wasting gas the more you press the pedal not only what gear your on. You can't accelerate from 0-55/75 fast and be efficient. Sorry you need another car if that's what you want.
