They haven't really. They did engineer the car. That's a fact, it's not "taking" credit from anyone else.

This is a rumor that has not been confirmed through any production related press release or official production statement. Yamaha hasn't mentioned it, Toyota didn't mention it in the reveals, and neither did Subaru.

It was stated that the suspension is based off an impreza. In pics, it looks basically exactly like an impreza in the rear and only slightly different up front. The point of the car was to be affordable, which means parts bin.

Again, they haven't. Neither has really. If anything it was Toyota that tried to take more of the credit for the car's engineering than was deserved, not the other way around.
