Import tax doesn't stop people from buying cars they want. Lot people in Asia make big buck. Good thing about the US is, blue collars worker can get high income because of the minimum wage, but blue collars in Asia get very little income in comparison.
FYI, my country has 130% import tax on all cars, and Vietnam has 300% import tax( from what I heard, but can be a bit lower) on
Brand New cars (I don't really know their tax rate for used cars though).
