I am getting and installing a pioneer nav deck soon and plan on doing all the bypasses myself... this is still somewhat confusing to someone not terribly familiar with auto wiring.

He put a physical toggle switch in so that he can ground out the speed sensor allowing him to use the gps when he wants. The speed sensor is used to help the gps keep track of the vehicle in times of poor gps signal, so the gps works with the speed sensor off; but it may be less accurate. If the gps needs help he can now switch it back to having the speed sensor, but the head unit will lock hm out again.
