Not a fact, just the most likely culprit in my opinion. Simply put, the way the mags describe the Subaru as apparently having more understeer at the limits of adhesion implies that the Subaru has proportionally less rear roll stiffness than the Toyota. Now, it's possible that Subaru changed the spring rates, either slightly stiffer front or softer rear, but it doesn't make much sense to me. Subaru already has a large variety of swaybars for the impreza rear suspension designed and in inventory. It makes better financial sense to make the change with the swaybars. I really doubt it's a difference in damper rates though, as that would effect transient balance, not steady state balance like the reviews seem to be talking about.
