If any consolation, I still use the handbreak when I pull up to an incline and release the handbreak when the rear end scoots up. Been doing so for 21 yrs. old habits die hard. I can do the balancing act too. But break, gas, and pray you don't stall...yeah it's still not one of my strengths either.
Del Valle is a hill climb on the way there but you shouldn't have to stop until you get to the gate (right side). Your organizers found parking downhill for the photo opp to be better. Leaving the lake is all down hill. Mines has a lot ups/downs but there wouldn't be a reason to stop and go on it.
