I'm a ASE tech by trade, and I hate it.. I enjoy working on hot rods and custom cars.. I hate being a "grease monkey" changing wheels and oil and that shit.. I have 100k in tools and at one time needed a select set of wrenches and a impact gun, because the shop just changed oil and tires for what seemed like months.. Shit gets old..
That said, I landed a military contract job, as a electrical tech 1 with Raytheon, and made almost 30$ an hour just keeping batteries charged and swapped out.. Easiest cake job ever and I liked it.. But contract jobs come and go, and right now seem to be more going then coming.. As of now I'm unemployed but make more on that then most tech jobs around here are offering..
My favorite job was heavy equipment mechanic.. But not on things like dirty ass bull dozers.. More like the company stored the equipment, and we assembled and swapped blades and that stuff.. Also went and built some of the biggest bulldozers and dump trucks in the world.. But it wasn't the job as much as it was like hanging out with your best friends 8-12 hours a day..
Now I'd love to just work on race cars or high performance cars, and bikes.. Stuff like that..
