Exactly, it's one of the reasons why FI is advantageous over carbs as they would still use fuel on the over-run.

Ideally you'd only be in neutral when at a stop as yes, you can save yourself fuel by using the engine to slow you down. I know it's really the wrong kind of car, but if you wanted to get some great MPG out of the car, read the road ahead and try and use the engine braking as much as you can. All the time you're doing that, you're using no fuel.

If you want to prove it, I'm sure there's an injection time parameter you can monitor in Torque (I use ECUtek, and there is in that). Obviously it will go 0 in these circumstances.
