A lot of people are saying that you can't boost much with the 12.5:1 CR. Is that necessarily true when you have direct injection?
Turbo diesel engines, which use a form of direct injection, typically have compression ratios greater than 15:1.
If they tune the direct injection to delay when the fuel is injected, you can avoid detonation. Not sure how that would be different from a diesel, other than the type of fuel, though.
Of course the block has to be able to handle it, but subaru already makes a turbodiesel outside the US, so maybe the FA block can take it.
