I lurked on this forum for months doing research before I bought my FRS and actually joined the forum a few days after I bought it in June 2012. I did initially want a BRZ because I thought it would be great to match my fiance's SWP Outback XT with my own SWP BRZ Limited, but I didn't want to pay the extra $5k-$9k+ for a BRZ or driving/flying out of state to procure one at MSRP on June 1st when I just walked on a Scion lot and bought my FRS.
As it turns out, I love both the FRS and BRZ--and am glad I've yet to run into any mean people at the various meets. They're the same car with a few cosmetic/electronic differences--one has HIDs/NAV/butt warmers+ and a mustache and the other is just basics with no mustache...
Why on earth there should be any animosity or inferiority/superiority issues with any of the Scion or Subaru owners (or potential owners) is beyond me. I call BRZs the big sister because they cost more, but I've certainly enjoyed all the sponsored events the Scion dealers and Toyota/Scion have put on for FRS owners and I'm glad they also extend welcomes to BRZ owners at the events so it keeps our communities together and doesn't alienate one group simply because they're in the minority.
I'm glad people are on the forums researching the car--they should know what they're getting into before buying and then they can join in the efforts to build and continue strengthening our community of enthusiasts.
Also--so what if you don't like the show car... I'm not a fan of the Rocket Bunny stuff or big giant wings, but I can certainly appreciate other people's aesthetic and the hard-earned money/time/effort they've put into creating a car they love.
My FRS is my DD, so I don't appreciate a lot of the becauseracecar stuff for myself, but I don't begrudge anyone else's choice to indulge in their own aftermarket binges.
