I think a lot of you are being a little insensitive to people that actually want the options. Calling them whiners and idiots. They have a legitimate right to complain after seeing the JDM versions and then being let down by a lesser product.

The manufactures should not tell us what we want but rather give us the option of getting what we want. This way one person can buy the cheapest FR-S they want and another person can buy the most expensive one they want.

It should be about having options. And no, buying the BRZ is not an option when someone has their heart set on buying the exact same GT 86 Japan gets.

Aftermarket -

This idea that "oh there's the aftermarket and all these missing parts will be easily available from Toyota". Or, "Buy the BRZ for the premium option."

My experience tells me some parts yes, some parts not so much.

I own a 2011 Mazda 2. The rest of the world comes with HID Projector Headlights but not in the US. You would think that I could just go buy them directly from Mazda right? WRONG. Mazda will not sell them to the US market at all. And if i do buy the HID Projector Headlights from another country Mazda will void my warranty if I install them. In fact, Mazda will NOT install them even though they are 100% a genuine Mazda part.

So who is to say that this same thing will not happen with the Scion?
I think it's a little different in my case but Toyota America doesn't sell the projector headlights my car came with in the Japanese model. All the US dealerships I know of won't sell them or carry them yet you can buy them on eBay. You can buy and install them yourself. Easily.

Now, my memory might be wrong but a dealer can't void your warranty unless they can prove that your modification caused an issue that wouldn't have happened if you kept the stock part. I wouldn't be so worried about Mazda's bluff...or any manufacturer's.
