blowoff valves are always closed until theres a pressure difference when you shift and then it opens to release the air before its forced backwards towards the turbo or supercharger

Thanks, didn't know it worked like this.
So, the difference between a bypass valve and a BOV is that the BPV is always open until 0 vacuum is achieved and then it closes. In contrast, a BOV is always closed until throttle lift when air pressure will open it?
I had thought the difference between a BPV and a BOV was that the BPV could never vent to atmosphere, just recirculate but BOV's could either full dump to atmosphere or do 50/50 or similar.
