I have an automatic and you can easily get 34 mpg highway and about 23-24 mpg around town. Handling is amazing. It is definitely a 2 seater but folding the back seats down gives you quite a bit of storage. As other posters have said the interior quality is not up to VW's but it is not bad. A test drive should give you all what you need to decide. The VW Golf TDI was on my short list, but the electrical horror stories turned me away.
