I don't think it will be that hard to take the entire intake section of the engine off and check for the tape, but a walkthrough would be helpful. I'm about to take this on, now armed with a camera and a decent set of tools... Will post pics if I'm successful.

You should probably NOT be attempting this yourself if you didn't know what the butterfly valve is...... if you insist on doing it yourself, I would suggest arming yourself with an actual person who is knowledgeable about these things and have them there in person to help...
