I also said in my post that I do that when there is NO engine load, as in going on a slight decline or maintaining speed.
But hey, we each have our own driving style and mine seems to work quite well so needn't we worry about which gear we cruise in.

this is ''dead nuts " accurate! with emphasis on NOT worrying about WHAT gear you are in,again,so long as you are NOT "lugging" the engine,that's your main concern.
