I guess according to wiki it'll slow the engine down (likely for our cars closing the throttle since it's electronic) until you regain control but that isn't the primary method of "fixing" the problem.
It's definitely slowing the engine down. I've got the accelerator depressed, but it isn't responding - the RPMs drop. If it applied the brakes, the RPMs would still climb as I have the gas pedal down.

It may be applying the brakes at the same time, but if it is, it's not doing so hard. I'd be able to detect it, and I'm not feeling any sort of mechanical braking.
